FLUX merges the axis of time, chemistry and illumination, to visualize the transitory nature of passing moments and the ineffable, fleeting aspect of time. As an installation with accompanying art sculptures, the series expresses the aesthetic and philosophy of Spring Drive, one of the foremost watch pieces of Grand Seiko. FLUX suggests the individual differences in time felt by individuals, and heightens the way they engage with that sense of time. Exposed internal watch fragments and mechanisms stand in a pool of special liquid and are spotlighted, allowing the water beneath to glow and flow, spreading and eventually dissipating. Computer graphic imagery portraying the passing of time complements the gentle motion of the light, enveloping the installation space. The special liquid — developed by we+ — is a representation of the constant change and transience of time as its motion comes alive by illumination. Accompanying the installation are several glass domes filled with a unique powder in which disassembled components of Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive movement are set — a reflection of the watch’s microcosmos as a limited art piece. When held in one’s hands, the powder emits the light and glides softly like water when rotated, softly intertwining with the watch parts and gradually filling with light again.

グランドセイコーが誇る高級時計、スプリングドライブの世界観・思想を体現したインスタレーションとオブジェです。同じ時間でも、人によって感じる長さはそれぞれ異なります。そんな体感時間にフォーカスし、流動しつづけ、一瞬たりとも同じ状態ではない流体をメタファーに、時計の“精緻さ”の先に存在するであろう“時の移ろいとはかなさ”を表現しました。本インスタレーションのために、光を当てることで蓄光する特殊な液体を独自開発。液体で満たされたプールの上に点在する時計やパーツ群に光が当たると、真下の液体に光が宿り、発光した液体は、ポンプの力でゆっくりと流れ、有機的な波紋をつくりながら広がっていきます。さらに、時の移ろいを感じさせる映像が、空間全体を包み込みます。一度として同じ表情を見せない有機的な液体の流れを光によって可視化し、一人ひとりの体感時間や、時間との向き合い方の差異を重ね合わせています。有機的なフォルムのガラスオブジェの中には、粒子と時計のパーツが封入されています。液体と同様に、粒子も光を当てると自ら発光する性質を持っており、光源が仕込まれた台からオブジェを手にとり動かすことで、光を蓄えた粒子は水のようにさらさらと流れ、ゆるやかにパーツと絡み合いながら、オブジェの中を光で満たします。
