Exploring the potential of ocean resources

Materials from the Ocean is a research project by we+ with students to understand the characteristics of ocean resources and their connections to the region, and to explore how to develop new materials and apply them to manufacturing. The field research was conducted in the coastal areas of Hiroshima Prefecture, a region historically known for active fishing and aquaculture industries. In addition to visiting the Fisheries and Marine Technology Centre and the local museum to understand the history and current situation of the fishing industry and its surroundings, we toured the coasts of Hiroshima City, Kure City and Etajima City to collect a variety of materials. Utlizing the information gathered in the field, various processing experiments are repeated to examine the potential of ocean resources.
