kitoki

A device designed to encourage deep breathing
we+ worked on plan development and product design for Kitoki, a woodworking vital sensing device enhancing refreshment through breathing and behavior. Developed by Japan Tobacco inc., Kitoki is a product created through long-standing research of luxury grocery items and sold through the crowdfunding site Makuake. Kitoki features two perspiration sensors that measure a relaxed state and visualize the effect of deep breathing. To encourage comfortable deep breathing, hinoki wood was selected as the main material for the device. By using it in a pure, uncoated state as a product, the user is able to enjoy the softness and secular change of the wood when held, and experience its subtle fragrance when gently scraped. By creating more than 100 prototypes and conducting effect verifications, the final form designed by we+ was safe for anyone to carry.
