Encounter

Encounter is an installation that expresses Hermès’ 2020 theme, “Movement of Innovation.” Looking back on history, humankind has built a new culture by incorporating and integrating technologies and lifestyles with an impact on our lives seldom seen from a distance. Inspired by such history, by viewing innovation as “a movement that connects seemingly unrelated elements,” we visualized the movement of colors as metaphors to create a world abundant in innovation and progression. We installed a number of rotational horizontal tubular screws with a mechanical timer filled with colored sand that was gradually dispensed and gently directed throughout the space, moving from top to bottom, creating an ever-changing scene. As different colors met, overlapped and merged, they created unexpected combinations, furthermore reflecting intersections of people, ideas, things and technology.
